SAFE CARS SAVE LIVES
Recalls are a serious safety issue so the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) has launched a new public awareness campaign called “Safe Cars Save Lives.”
The NHTSA urges consumers to check for open recalls at least twice per year and to get their vehicles fixed ASAP. Last year alone, there were 900 recalls affecting 51 million vehicles nationwide, but 25% of recalled vehicles go left un-repaired.
Checking for recalls and getting repairs could help save a life. Use the following link to check for recalls using your VIN number or by make and model: http://www.safercar.gov/CheckForRecalls
A good way to remember to check is to time it with daylight savings time (and remember to check your smoke alarms too!).
The goal of the NHTSA is to get a 100% completion rate for every single recall. The NHTSA recognizes that effective communication of a recall is an important step in the process so they also developed mobile apps for Apple and Android devices that provide on the spot information on crash protection features, advanced safety features, and recalls on new vehicles and many older models.
